ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

ADDITIONAL ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM

1.         Submit application for additional endorsement program, copies of transcripts, and copy of current teaching license to Jennifer Driver.  Applications are available from the UTC Certification Officer (Hunter 203) or Jennifer Driver.

 

2.         Receive program of study.

 

3.         Be admitted to UTC.  Contact Graduate Studies  (Siskin Building, 526 Vine Street, 425-4666, or email to Andrea-Evans@utc.edu.  You can be classified as non-degree graduate student (5000).  (Note:  For full admission, UTC requires verification of measles inoculation for students born after 1956; if that verification has not been submitted, registration for courses may be delayed.) Applications may also be completed via the internet. Applications can be downloaded from the UTC website, www.utc.edu.

 

4.         If you are eligible for tuition payment through the ESL or LEAP grant, submit to Jennifer Driver the employment verification letter signed by your current principal. (Currently, the following counties are covered in Tennessee: Bradley, Hamilton, Marion, Polk, Rhea, Sequatchie County, and Cleveland City. Catoosa and Walker County are the counties currently covered in Georgia.)

 

5.         Register for courses through Jennifer Driver. 

 

6.         When you have completed all coursework, contact Jennifer Driver about placement for the practicum.  Register for and complete the practicum.

 

7.         Take the Praxis II test #0360 Teaching English as a Second Language (required score:  530).  Registration information is available at: www.ets.org/praxis.

 

8.         Apply for the additional endorsement.  See the UTC Certification Officer for form and information.
