Course Prerequisites: Anatomy, Physiology and Introductory Nutrition

Sports Nutrition integrates nutrition with exercise physiology.  This course emphasizes energy systems as they apply to aerobic (endurance) and anaerobic (power/strength) activities.  Additionally, the requirements for energy nutrients, vitamins, minerals, fluids and ergogenic substances are evaluated
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
SUPPLEMENT WARNING ADVISORY
The New England Journal of Medicine reported today [January 11, 2001] that sports nutrition supplements containing 
1,4 butanediol or BD have been linked to deaths.  "The US Drug Enforcement Administration has identified 71 deaths caused by BD and another 40 or so are being investigated."  Similar chemicals, gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) which has been banned by the FDA and gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) which has had an FDA warning are also toxic.  For more information see the article in the New York Times or NEJM.  [You will have to register first to read the NY Times article.]
