Biography
Alley learned to be an artist at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. After studying at these institutions, and summer trips to Mexico where he refined his craft, Alley became the editorial cartoonist for the Kansas City Journal. He later took the same position at the Nashville Banner, before moving back home to Memphis, where he was the cartoonist for the Commercial Appeal from 1945 until his death in 1970.
