Lisa Alther (b. 1944)

Biography

Lisa Alther was born in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1944. She attended public schools as a child and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English from Wellesley College in 1966. After several jobs in New York, Alther moved to Vermont where she taught Southern fiction at St. Michael's College in Winooski. Currently, she divides her time between Vermont and New York. She has received numerous awards throughout her career, and has published five novels to date. Her books have been translated into fifteen different languages and are on best-seller lists across the globe.
