Biography
Brown attended Presbyterian College, earning his B.A. in English, before beginning a career as a reporter. He worked in Pensacola, Atlanta, and Memphis until 1984, when he took a job with the Knoxville News-Sentinel.
Brown has been a Fellow with the National Endowment for the Humanities and has won the Tennessee Press Association's Best Feature Writer Award, the Environmental Policy Institute Award for Environmental Writing, and the Society of Professional Journalists award for feature writing. He lives in Knoxville, where he was the president of the Knoxville Writers Guild from 1999-2000.
