| Sarvodaya is the leading
voluntary, non-governmental development organization in Sri
Lanka. |
| The Sarvodaya Shramadana
Movement started 47 years ago. Sarvodaya is Sanskrit for "Awakening
of All,” and Shramadana means to donate effort. |
| Presently, Sarvodaya
is actively involved in the distribution of food items and
clothing to the tsunami survivors, along with the organization
of medical care for the needy and the management of several
welfare camps set up for those who have lost their dwellings.
|
 |
| The Suwasetha is Sarvodaya's
program of health, nutrition, general care and rehabilitation
for disadvantaged groups including orphans, senior citizens,
the homeless and the physically and mentally handicapped.
|
| The overriding objective
of Suwasetha is to improve the general condition, standard
of living and quality of life of the most disadvantaged and
neglected human beings in Sri Lanka. |
| Sarvodaya maintains its
promise to the nation to receive any orphans into its care
in consultation with the relevant government agencies.

| The comprehensive approach
of Sarvodaya has worldwide appeal because it addresses root
causes rather than merely the symptoms of poverty. |
| Its attention to social,
economic, cultural, spiritual and other concerns supports
personal and village empowerment in ways that few 'programs'
can match. |
